Identify the Quality Issue

When considering where to start with improvement work it is important to first identify the quality issue that needs to be tackled. This can often start with the simple question of what matters to you, your service users and carers and staff. There are many ways to understand this either by speaking directly to people or using the data already routinely collected in your service.

As part of this work it is important to consider who can help begin to understand this problem and start to set up a group of people that can take the work forward.

What Issue Are We Trying to Solve?

Clearly define the problem or challenge you aim to address. Be specific about the issue at hand.

What Does Our Data Tell Us?

Analyse available data to gain insights into the problem.

Stakeholder Perspectives

What Are We Hearing? Engage with stakeholders, including staff, service users, and carers. Their perspectives are invaluable in understanding the issue.

Project Involvement

Who Needs to Participate? Identify key individuals who should be involved in the improvement project including service users.

Leadership and Team Capability

Who Will Lead? Designate a leader for the improvement work. Assess the team’s quality improvement (QI) capabilities.

Engaging Service Users

What Are the Team’s Ideas for Involving service users in the improvement work.
