Last Friday (October the 4th) members of the QI team at ELFT joined the ELFTIn1Voice choir on stage at Indigo at The 02 and opened TEDxNHS with a stunning performance of the original “See Me As I Am”, a co-write between Leanne Sedin and Mandeep Singh commissioned for ELFT’s Quality Conference last year.
ELFTIn1Voice opening up TedxNHS 2019
Brought together by choir director Leanne Sedin and joined on stage by Mandeep Singh, a psychiatry trainee and freestyle rapper, the choir wowed the 02 with their uniquely improvised musical piece. Kevin Fox joined the choir, Leanne and Mandeep on stage for the first time, He set the backdrop of the piece with his world class beat boxing and brought the whole piece together beautifully. The song highlights the importance of co-production and people participation in healthcare and is in itself an example of that.
The audience were treated to an improvised verse of rap courtesy of Mandeep. This piece was performed to the backdrop of improvisation by the choir, led by Leanne. She describes this part of the performance as “music in the moment, a completely unique piece built around Mandeep’s freestyle words”. She also added: “once it is sung it will never be heard again and there’s something very powerful about that”.
The choir also performed at the Quality Conference and the ELFT Staff Awards this year. Indigo at the 02 was the choir’s biggest stage yet, but it certainly will not be the last.
