Better quality through better measurement

  • A one-day interactive workshop that will walk you through the milestones in the quality measurement journey, including how to define measures, what an operational definition is, how to create your data collection plans
  • We will have a particular focused session on sampling – how to choose a sample of data
  • The afternoon will be spent on statistical process control charts, with a deep dive into control charts – using a number of case studies and exercises to help reinforce your confidence in choosing the right control chart, and interpreting control charts to inform good decision-making

Thurs 2 May   9.15-4.30pm

The day will cover four topics related to healthcare improvement and use of data:

  1. Dashboard design – how to design dashboards that give key information at a glance to inform good decision-making
  2. Survey design – learn the science behind survey design – asking questions that will give you the best insight, choosing the appropriate response format
  3. Holding the gains, and reliable design – the science of reliability. Learn the key concepts in designing systems that are highly reliable
  4. Process capability – how to set goals and targets, understanding specification limits and capability of a process

The speaker for these two days is Dr Robert Lloyd, Vice President of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement:

Robert Lloyd, PhD, Vice President, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), provides leadership in the areas of performance improvement strategies, building capacity and capability for improvement, statistical process control methods, and development of strategic dashboards. He also serves as faculty for various IHI initiatives and demonstration projects in the US and abroad. Before joining IHI, Dr. Lloyd served as the Corporate Director of Quality Resource Services for Advocate Health Care (Oakbrook, IL), Director of Quality Measurement for Lutheran General Health System, Senior Director at the Hospital Research and Educational Trust of AHA, and spent ten years with the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania in various leadership roles. He is author of numerous articles, reports, and books.​
