In 2021 the ELFT Improvement Leaders’ Programme (ILP) course includes 5 days of virtual learning sessions, including workshops and Action Learning Sets. ILP is aimed at those who are actively involved in a QI project, it will give people support to learn and apply the QI method and tools to a real-life complex problem.
If you are interested please discuss with your line manager, local Clinical or Service Director, or contact your local sponsor. If you are unsure who your local sponsor is please follow this link to find out.

Who is it suitable for?
- Anybody leading QI projects
- Anybody who has completed Open School and Pocket QI and wants a deeper knowledge around QI
- QI sponsors
- Service Users & Carers
- DMT members
- Consultants and speciality doctors
- Senior nurses (band 6 and above)
- Senior pharmacists or senior technicians
- Psychologists
What are the pre-requisites?
- Attendees must have a QI project. The project selected needs to align with local directorate priorities and be approved by the respective DMT/QI sponsors.
- Attendees need to be able to commit to attending all training days and learning sets
What is the course length & structure?
- Total course length is 5 months, including:
- 5 full days of workshops

- Fundamentals of running successful QI projects
- Understanding the problem you are trying to tackle
- Developing aim statements and driver diagrams
- Measuring data for improvement
- Using Plan Do Study Act cycles to test change ideas
- Implementation and Quality control
