The Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) is one of the largest teaching hospitals in England, and at the time of the BPR initiative had an annual revenue budget of around £130 million with approximately 1,100 beds and 4,200 staff. Its activity includes approximately 103,000 inpatient episodes, 120,000 accident and emergency and 400,000 outpatient attendances
each year.
