Mitigating the impact of child poverty in a highly diverse population – feasibility and acceptability of co-located welfare benefits advice in healthcare and community settings

This article demonstrates how a Quality Improvement (QI) approach can be harnessed to tackle one of the most significant drivers of health inequality: child poverty. Reporting on the Healthier Wealthier Families programme in East London, the study explores the impact of embedding welfare benefits advice within healthcare and community settings for families with young or disabled children. Through continuous monitoring, stakeholder collaboration and iterative testing of change ideas, QI methods helped strengthen referral pathways, improve service uptake and maximise benefits for families. The findings show that practical, person-centred improvements can generate substantial financial gains, enhance wellbeing and support more equitable outcomes for some of the most vulnerable communities.
