Preview of Value projects for the Improvement Leaders’ Programme

Wave 9 of the Improvement Leaders’ Programme starts this September and for the first time Value will feature as one of our High Priority Areas. We caught up with some project teams who are looking forward to the programme to find out why they’ve brought a value project forward and what they’re most excited about heading into Wave 9.

Medication Management – Community Health Newham
Adebsi Abodunde is a band 6 nurse and an AMHP (Approved Mental Health Professional) who has been working in home treatment for the last 10 years. She’s bringing a project on Medication Management to Wave 9, the aim being to minimise wastage on medication order/dispensing to our Home Treatment Team (HTT) patients. Adebsi is looking forward to raising awareness amongst doctors, clinicians, pharmacists and service users about the value of effectively managing medication waste.

Energy and Waste Reduction – Corporate
Adam Toll is the Energy and Environmental Manager at ELFT and he has spotted a quality issue with the Trust’s energy waste and recycling levels. Adam is excited to bring this QI project to Wave 9 and has a few change ideas already: organising events on inpatient units and at HQ to help highlight waste issues; artwork competitions with arts therapy to design waste reduction campaign/poster for display.

Printing – Corporate
The Financial Viability Team from ELFT are heading into Wave 9 in order to reduce waste and print. Sarah Barnett is the Financial Programme Manager and is leading on this project. Heading into Wave 9, this project team are looking forward to testing change ideas, notably the new printing service being rolled out across the Trust. Read more from Sarah here >> 

Video Conferencing – Forensics
Dr. Marc Lyall, Consultant Psychiatrist, is working on a QI project to promote video conferencing in the Forensics Directorate when service users have to attend court. The aim of this QI project is to  understand why the use of video conferencing facilities is low within ELFT’s Forensic service and to increase its use by 60% by the end of the year. The project team plan on measuring this project by collecting data from wards on when video conferencing is used, not used and when it’s considered but not used because it’s not appropriate in court appearances. Dr. Lyall and his team are most excited about a reduction in patient escorts, improving patient satisfaction in relation to reduced anxiety from court appearances
