Teams come together to share work on Equity

As part of the trusts commitment to pursuing the Quality of life for all we serve, the organisation has been supporting teams to pursue equity using QI as part of a trust wide Pursuing Equity QI programme. Currently in its second phase, the Pursuing Equity programme brings together support from QI, informatics, and people participation to help teams to co-design improvement work with their service users to tackle a range of inequities.

On the 30th of April, over 19 teams from across trust came together on to share their learning from the work they had been doing. The teams were joined by Pedro Delgado and Patti Harvey from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and Nandi Simpson from the NHS Health and Race Observatory (NHS RHO).

Teams were able to share their learning as part of a world café, spending time listening to each other, creating new connections, and getting support to help them move to the next step. You can see the range of work below as well as follow this link to a poster gallery showing posters from each team.

As part of the session, teams were able to hear from Pedro, Patti and Nandi, who spent time answering some burning questions on equity through a panel discussion. Some of their key advice for those wanting to pursue equity included:

  1. That co-production is a pre-condition needed for effective work on equity – You need to work with people to co-design something better.
  2. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of progress. Ask yourself what information you have that can help you start and get on with making a difference
  3. To build a community where sharing is possible to make things feel possible and so that you always have a friend to call on.

You can watch a video message from Nandi Simpson below. You can find out more about the programme by visiting the following link.
